Ruth Langsford calls Joanna Lumley by her Ab Fab character’s name Patsy

She is best known for her role in Absolutely Fabulous.

And Joanna Lumley’s vodka-swilling, pill-popping character Patsy Stone came back to haunt her during an appearance on Loose Women on Wednesday, when panelist Ruth Langsford called her Patsy rather than Joanna.

The This Morning star, 60, explained that when the actress, 74, tied her hair up sha had caused the confusion, as she said: ‘You and Patsy, you and Patsy, I’ve done it already Joanna. It’s because you put your hair up!’

Joanna starred as Patsy for five seasons and one movie of Ab Fab from 1992 to 2012, opposite Jennifer Saunders who played eccentric Edina Monsoon.

Given the part was her best role, the Loose Women gaffe was a glaring addition.

Ruth’s confusion came into play with the hairdo, as Joanna explained that while she prefers her hair up she is at fear of ‘turning Patsy’: ‘I look better with my hair up, tidier and nicer up, I have to be careful if I put it up of not turning into Patsy!’

Elsewhere on the show, she also spoke to Janet Street-Porter about their modelling days and how they worked together in their younger years.

Lavishing praise upon her former colleague, she said: ”I was so impressed by Janet, such a force of character then, so beautiful, so tall, all models… great, lanky girls, tall, thin and funny, so self-assured, she was fabulous!’

Joanna’s appearance comes after she revealed she was once propositioned by singer Frank Sinatra at a party as her career was just taking off in the 1960s.

The celebrated actress is a household name thanks to starring roles in a string of hit shows, most notably Absolutely Fabulous.

But Joanna, then in her early 20s, was a relative unknown while attending a star-studded showbiz party thrown by film producer Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli following her brief appearance in 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Recalling the moment she caught Sinatra’s eye during an online chat with Gyles Brandreth, she said: ‘There were some pretty girls, and I had been a Bond girl, so I was a “pretty girl” and was allowed to go along.

‘I put on a nice dress, and I was thinking, “I get to see Frank Sinatra!”

The actress was duly introduced to Sinatra by party host David Niven, Jr – the son of actor David Niven.

She said: ‘I went and stood by the door and Old Blue Eyes got out of the limousine and came in with much greeting, bants and chuffing and so on.’

‘Niv Jr said, “This is Joanna Lumley.” And Frank looked at me with those great blue eyes and said, “Shall we leave now?”‘

By then well into his 50s, Sinatra’s third marriage to the significantly younger Mia Farrow had ended a year or so prior to his meeting with Lumley.
