Niecy Nash, 51, reveals when she fell in love with wife Jessica Betts as she adds ‘I wasn’t living a sexually repressed life when I was married to men’
Niecy Nash is celebrating her love for ‘hersband’ Jessica Betts.
The 51-year-old actress gushed over her wife during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, and explained the couple’s August 2020 wedding was not a coming out moment.
‘A lot of people say that, like, “Oh, you came out!” and I say, “Well, from out of where?” You know what I mean? I wasn’t anywhere to come out of. I wasn’t living a sexually repressed life when I was married to men, I just loved them when I loved them. And now I love her,’ she said.

‘I lovingly call her my “hersband,”‘ she added, joking that she ‘broke the internet’ with the surprising news of their union.
The Masked Singer host also revealed the pair had been friends other for years, long before she divorced her second husband Jay Tucker last March.
But it was one particular dinner they shared once Niecy was single that made her reevaluate her feelings for her new spouse.
‘We were probably friends for about four and a half years. I was already divorced and we were still friends, and we went to go eat crabs,’ she explained.

‘Ah, that’s it. That’s the gay thing,’ the talk show host joked in response, before Nash played along: ‘It’s a gateway, people. If you don’t want this life, don’t go eat crabs.’
‘Do not go to eat crabs with your friend. That’s what will do it. I knew I was going to get to the bottom of it before the commercial,’ Ellen added.
The lovebirds caught many fans off guard when they went public as a couple not long after Nash finalized her divorce.

‘I think some people, there’s a scale, the Kinsey scale, right? Some people are more straight and some people are more gay, and some people are in the middle. And some people are born knowing what they want and who they are, and some people change. So I think that’s fine,’ DeGeneres responded.
Shortly after their wedding, Nash spoke with People about her love story with Betts.
‘[My marriage] has absolutely nothing to do with gender and it has everything to do with her soul. She is the most beautiful soul I have ever met in my life.’
