‘I have always known I wanted to be on big stages’: Zara Larsson looks unrecognisable in throwback clip as a 10-year-old on Sweden’s Got Talent

Zara Larsson has told how she always wanted ‘to be on big stages’ as she looked back on winning the Swedish version of Got Talent when she was 10 years old.

The singer, 23, appeared on Monday’s episode of This Morning and discussed her audition for the show where she performed a rendition of Whitney Houston’s Greatest Love of All to the shocked judges.

Zara, who looked almost unrecognisable in the clip, said: ‘I have always known I wanted to be on big stages and entertain as many people as possible.

‘Walking up on that stage, being 10 years old, I just couldn’t wait. I was too young for Idol, I was too young for X Factor. This is what I wanted to do and I’m living my dream.’

Zara won Talang, the Swedish version of the Got Talent franchise, in 2008 and received a cash prize of 500,000 krona (£42,119).

The hitmaker signed with the record label TEN Music Group four years later and released her debut EP Introducing the following year.

Zara released her debut album So Good in 2017 and waited four years for her next release, Poster Girl.

She explained: ‘It was four years ago I released my last album and a lot of things happen. You fall outta love, you fall in love, you make new friends. I’m definitely more grown.

‘So Good was amazing but it was mostly a collection of singles. This time, I struggled to pull everything together and make it feel like a project but I feel like I’m finally there. But back at it again, I want to release an album next year and the year after that.’

Asked if she has started work on her next record, Zara said: ‘Absolutely. Mentally, I’m far away from this album.

‘When I release it to the world, it’s out of my control. Everything I can do is to be creative and go back into the studio.

‘I can listen to my unreleased songs on a loop but once it’s out there… it’s like saying bye to my child whose going to college.’

It comes after Zara revealed she was ‘well protected’ against ‘predators’ in the music industry because she was accompanied by her mother and manager with work duties from the age of 16.

In an interview with GQ Hype, she said: ‘It doesn’t matter how f**king creepy you are, not a lot of people are trying to [make a] move [on] a 16-year-old.

‘When I started doing this, I was a literal child. And I always had my mum and my manager with me.

‘So even though this industry can be a bit wild and weird, and there’s a lot of predators in it, I think I was very well protected. It might have looked different if I started off doing this when I was 23, when I was a woman.’
