Police Taser girl aged TEN: Youngest ever UK victim is hit with 50,000-volt stun gun while ‘threatening mother with a hammer’ in private gated estate

  • Police were responding to disturbance at a home within a gated estate
  • They confronted a girl, 10, holding a ‘weapon’ and demanded she drop the item
  • She refused and officers deployed a 50,000-volt electric stun gun to subdue her
  • Girl was not injured and case is now with Independent Office for Police Conduct

A 10-year-old girl was tasered by police when they found her armed with a weapon in her home, it has been claimed.

Officers were responding to reports of a disturbance at a gated property when the child was hit with 50,000 volts from an electric stun gun.

The shocking incident is an incredibly rare use of a Taser against a youngster.

According to The Sun, officers arrived at a flat in the private estate where the girl had allegedly been threatening her mother with a hammer.

‘Police were confronted by the girl holding a weapon and in an extremely agitated state,’ a source told the publication.

‘An officer yelled at the girl to drop the weapon and when she didn’t comply, a Taser was used on her.’

The girl was not injured in the incident. It is not clear whether the girl was arrested, though the legal age of criminal responsibility in England is 10.

Following a complaint, the case has now been passed to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Mick Neville, a former Chief Detective Inspector in the Met Police, described the use of a Taser against the child as ‘extremely rare and disturbing’.

In the year to April 2019, police officers in England and Wales drew their Taser on 22,059 occasions.

Of these, 29 were when dealing with a child under the age of 11. The figures do not indicate whether the taser had to be used.
