Slimline Boris is forced to buy a whole new wardrobe as he drops a suit size in post-Covid health kick

  • Sources claim he has even been throwing away old clothes to motivate himself
  • PM, who was 16st 7 lb when he caught Covid, has already shed nearly two stone
  • An insider said he is ‘determined’ to try to lose at least another stone by summer

He’s been shedding the pounds in an effort to get healthier.

And Boris Johnson’s weight-loss drive has been so successful that he’s had to splash out on a new wardrobe after dropping a suit size, sources said last night.

They claimed he has even been throwing away his old clothes to motivate himself to keep off the weight.

But the Prime Minister wants to lose ‘at least’ another stone by the summer, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Mr Johnson, who was 16st 7 lb when he caught Covid last year, has already shed nearly two stone with a combination of diet and exercise.

‘He’s doing so well that he is determined to try to lose at least another stone by the summer,’ an insider said.

‘He’s had to buy some new shirts because his other stuff was way too big. He’s decided to chuck some of it in the bin to make sure he keeps the weight off for good.’

His fiancee, Carrie Symonds, is also ‘playing a big part’ in how careful he is with his diet. ‘She eats incredibly healthily which makes things a lot easier,’ the source added.

Mr Johnson now rarely drinks alcohol, has cut out ‘late-night cheese’, eats less chocolate and runs regularly.

Last week, as his Government pledged £100 million to help people lose weight, he said: ‘I’ve been doing everything I can to lose weight and to feel fitter and healthier. I have lost quite a lot by my standards, and I feel much more energetic, I feel full of beans and I thoroughly recommend it.’

Last night, No 10 played down the suggestion Mr Johnson was throwing away his old clothes.
