Julie retired from federal politics back in 2019, and was the first woman to hold the role of deputy leader of the Liberal Party.

‘Her passion that she has always brought to her role, the dignity and grace that she has always demonstrated in every single role she has held,’ Prime Minister Scott Morrison told Parliament in February 2019.

‘She is an incredibly classy individual. Her successor will have big shoes to fill, and we know that Julie has the best shoes in Parliament.’

Morrison has come under intense criticism in recent weeks for his handling of former political staffer Brittany Higgins’ rape allegations.

Since Ms Higgins first spoke out in February, more allegations have been exposed against other Australian politicians and political staffers.

‘We need a strong and intelligent woman like you,’ commented one fan on Julie’s Instagram post, while another wrote, ‘Might be time for a political comeback.’

Others urged Julie to go for the top job: ‘What a different time it would be with you as PM.’

‘You must be churning with all the mess of Canberra!!!’ wrote one person, while another commented, ‘Words cannot express how much I wish you were our PM.’
