  • Mr Perez forgot he was wearing a face shield again as he tried to eat some cake

This is the hilarious moment a 100-year-old man fails to blow out his birthday candles because he has forgotten he is still wearing his Covid-19 face shield.

Teobaldo Perez was being filmed by family members as he celebrated his 100th birthday with them in Ocala, Florida.

The grandfather was wearing a full face shield to protect him from the threat of coronavirus.

Once the face shield is removed, Mr Perez is able to blow out the candles on his golf-themed cake

But, the footage shows, the grandfather has apparently become so used to wearing the mask that he does not notice it until he tries to extinguish the three candles on the sky blue cake.

His family erupt into laughter at Mr Perez’s gaffe and a relative lifts the shield off the good-humoured birthday boy’s face.

Freed from the visor, Mr Perez raises himself to his full height and takes a deep breath before successfully blowing out the candles on the golf-themed cake, designed by his granddaughter Valerie Gomez, who owns Laffitte Bakery in south Florida.

Ms Gomez, who posted the video online, said: ‘He laughed when he realised he was still wearing his mask and obviously everyone at the same time reminded him he was wearing it.’

However, Mr Perez does not seem to learn from his mistake, and later tries to pop a spoonful of cake into his mouth – again while wearing the face shield.
