Police have launched an urgent search for a 14-year-old schoolgirl who vanished after leaving home.

The girl, named only as Niamh, left her house in a village near Taunton, Somerset, on Wednesday and has not been seen since.

Officers said they need the public’s help to find the teenager, who was last seen in the village of Monkton Heathfield at around 4pm.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: ‘Niamh is white, 5ft 4ins tall and has blonde hair.

‘She was wearing a dark hooded top under a dark suede puffer jacket and grey jeans.

‘We need the public’s help to find a teenager who went missing on Wednesday afternoon.

‘If you see her, please call 101 and tell the call handler you’re phoning in relation to log 1004 of yesterday (Wednesday, 3 March).’
