The big Ru-veal! RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under queens will be unveiled at Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade – as the Stan Original series prepares to air later this year

The queens from the new series of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will be unveiled at this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.

The Australian and New Zealand contestants taking part in the eight-part series will be introduced at the glitzy parade on Saturday, March 6, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Stan confirmed on Tuesday.

The spectacular event will also feature performances by headline act Rita Ora, soulful electronic duo Electric Field and ARIA Award-winning art-pop songwriter Montaigne.

RuPaul Charles’ longtime sidekick Michelle Visage said: ‘Hello Australia! We all know that you love a big surprise, so we have some major news for you.

‘We will be Ru-vealing the queens of the Stan Original series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under this Saturday.’

While it’s not yet confirmed if Michelle and RuPaul will be at the event in person, she concluded her video with: ‘See you there!’

Stan will have its very own ‘Homecoming Queens’ float at the parade, showing off the diverse contestants while also spreading its own message of love.

Mari Gras CEO Albert Kruger said: ‘Drag Race is so much more than dips, glamour and gags.Drag Race has been pioneering queer voices and providing a platform for queer stories in the mainstream for over 10 years.

‘That sort of visibility goes so far in helping foster understanding and acceptance of LGBTQI+ people all over the world.

‘We’re very excited to be helping announce the local queens at Mardi Gras, and showing the rest of the world the talent we have Down Under.’

Production on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under is believed to have started in late January in New Zealand, due to the unpredictable Covid-19 situation in Australia.

Rumoured cast members include Sydney’s Vanity Faire, Felicia Foxx and Coco Jumbo, as well as Brisbane’s Scarlett Fever and Sellma Soul.

Newcastle’s Jojo Zaho and Melbourne’s Karen from Finance, Sabrina and Art Simone are also tipped to appear.

The Stan Original Series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will premiere in 2021, only on Stan.  The British and American versions of RuPaul’s Drag Race are available to stream on Stan in Australia
