Travis Scott donates 50,000 meals to Houston-area residents who have been affected by the Texas deep freeze

Travis Scott has provided 50,000 hot meals to Houston-area residents who are struggling in the aftermath of the Texas Freeze.

The 29-year-old hitmaker made the charitable donation through a partnership between his charitable organization, the Cactus Jack Foundation, the City of Houston and the Houston Health Foundation.

The city’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, was also involved in organizing the relief effort.

The rapper is currently working with community figures and other charitable foundations to provide more meals to at-risk residents living in a designated high-priority ZIP code.

Two of the organizations involved in the effort are The National Association of Christian Churches and The Black Service Chamber.

The February 13–17 North American Winter Storm, also referred to as Winter Storm Uri, began in the Pacific Northwest and quickly made its way towards the songwriter’s home state of Texas.

Record low temperatures were recorded across much of the state, and snowstorms blighted many at-risk residents.

Serious conditions: Winter Storm Uri began earlier this month and made its way to Scott's home state of Texas, where it brought extreme weather conditions and caused widespread power outages

Massive power outages also occurred in many cities and communities, leaving thousands of people without water or electricity during the weather event.

Texas governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration on February 12th, which was approved by president Joe Biden two days later.

Although the Electric Reliability Council of Texas had restored electricity to around 600,000 Texans on February 17th, the situation still remains dire for millions of people.

As of last Sunday, at least 8.8 million residents were still under boil-water orders, according to NBC News.

Houston and Austin were previously under water restrictions, although both cities were deemed to be in a stable situation last week.

Scott established the Cactus Jack Foundation last year with the intent of enriching the lives of young people in the Houston area.

The foundation’s first initiative was launching the HBCU Waymon Webster scholarship program, which aimed to cover tuition for college students who have been financially affected by the global pandemic.

Last December, the Sicko Mode songwriter organized a toy drive event in his hometown; Christmas trees and warm clothing were also distributed during the charitable function.

Scott’s ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner and the couple’s daughter Stormi, aged three, also made appearances during the toy drive.

The social media personality commemorated the event with a post made to her Instagram story showing her child supporting her father during the function.
