Rose Leslie and Theo James will appear in HBO adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife

Rose Leslie and Theo James have been cast in the leading roles for the upcoming adaptation of the 2003 Audrey Niffenegger novel The Time Traveler’s Wife.

In the adaptation, James and Leslie will portray artist Clare Abshire and librarian Henry DeTamble respectively, a wife and husband who deal with time travel in their romance.

Leslie, 34, has previously been seen on the HBO staple Game of Thrones, playing the role of Ygritte. Other notable credits include roles on Downton Abbey, The Good Fight and The Great Fire.

James, 36, has appeared in The Divergent movies, as well as Underworld: Awakening and Underworld: Blood Wars

James, 36, has appeared in The Divergent movies, as well as Underworld: Awakening and Underworld: Blood Wars. He’s also been a voice actor on the Netflix productions of Castlevania and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Steven Moffat will serve as an executive producer on the project.

When the show was given a straight-to-series order three years ago, he opened up about his affinity for the project.

‘I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it,’ he told Deadline at the time. ‘In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called The Girl In The Fireplace as a direct response to it.

‘When, in her next novel, Audrey had a character watching that very episode, I realized she was probably on to me.

He continued: ‘All these years later, the chance to adapt the novel itself, is a dream come true. The brave new world of long form television is now ready for this kind of depth and complexity.

‘It’s a story of happy ever after – but not necessarily in that order.’
