Cleaner’s life transformed as she lands modelling gig with Gucci after being spotted in the street

A former cleaner has revealed how her life was transformed after being scouted in the street and landelling a modelling gig with Gucci.

Clara Louise, 24, was spotted in Hackney, east London, in June 2019 by FOMO Models director Rob Wilson, who then put her forward for castings with international brands.

Her life changed overnight, going from barely making ends meet as a cleaner to landing a campaign for Gucci Beauty and appearing on the front cover of magazines, as well as working with other household names, such as Gymshark, Boots and Primark.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Clara said: ‘Rob saw me in the street on my way to the gym and asked me if I’d ever modelled. I said “no”, I was blasé about it, but we had a conversation, the rest is history.’

FOMO owner Rob, from London, who has worked with models including Kendall Jenner, told the Sun he targeted ‘black and curve models’ because he felt the industry was ‘so backwards’.

Recalling her modelling gigs, Clara revealed: ‘I’m so grateful because it’s been an amazing experience and it just shows how you should take every opportunity that comes your way in life.’

Clara was flown out to Rome twice last year to meet with leading models and Alessandro Michele, Italian fashion house Gucci’s creative director.

Meanwhile, FOMO’s Rob confessed that backing underdogs such as Clara was the key to his successful business.

Rob, who lost both his parents at a young age, said he aimed to help others who were struggling as he witnessed Clara’s life ‘change overnight’.

‘Now she flies around the world staying in nice hotels and working as hard as she can. Life is what you make it and if you work hard you can achieve whatever you like,’ he added.

The agency owner explained that he aimed for diversity when first starting his business because he felt the industry was ‘so backwards’.

‘We targeted a lot of black models and curve models – and now we’ve got hundreds on our books who’re working more than anyone else in the market,’ he said.

He admitted that when he first started scouting models for big agencies, they wouldn’t show much interest, but now the young models signed to his company are making a ‘fortune’.

Speaking about her experiences in the modelling world, Clara said it wasn’t anything like the catty experiences people witness on TV dramas and movies and was a ‘whole new world’.

Clara, who graduated from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2015, explained that her family were thrilled with her success but kept her grounded and made sure she stayed a ‘regular girl’.

However, Clara, who also worked as a freelance garment technologist, said she was worried her look ‘didn’t fit that world’ and feels she’s paving the way for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) models.
