Dancing On Ice’s Sonny Jay admits the show is ‘dangerous’ after five stars were forced to quit ‘cursed’ series… as he rules out fiancée Lauren Faith’s plans to get married on the rink

Dancing On Ice star Sonny Jay has reflected on taking part in the ‘dangerous’ show after five celebrity contestants were forced to pull out with injuries.

The Capital FM host, 27, admitted he’s been ‘humanised’ by the injuries suffered by stars in the competition, as the show returns to screens on Sunday following a week off for stars to ‘rest up.’

Speaking on Wednesday’s Lorraine, Sonny also revealed that he’s already ruled out plans by his fiancée Lauren Faith to get married on the ice, after impressing viewers with his skating moves.

Sonny admitted it had been a challenging series after multiple celebrities were forced to withdraw due to injuries or a positive Covid test.

He said: ‘It just goes to show, it humanises it a bit. It’s such a difficult thing to do and it is a massive challenge and you can get injured. It’s such a shame Jason Donovan is gone.

‘When you sign up to the show you do know it is a dangerous show but it’s such a fun show and you can’t take that away from it.’

Adding he feels his biggest rival in the competition is Coronation Street star Faye Brookes, Sonny said he’s not convinced by his wife-to-be Lauren’s plans for them to exchange vows on the ice.

He added: ‘It was a great idea until you factor in the budget of it. My fiancé Lauren was like oh imagine if we could do our first dance on ice and I was like, yeah imagine, just keep imagining.

‘It sounds more glamorous than it is. Those ice skates smell. You’re constantly sweating in them. You don’t want that on your wedding day, do you?’

This year’s Dancing On Ice has been thrown into turmoil after five celebrities were forced to drop out.

The latest was Jason Donovan, who bowed out of the ‘cursed’ competition on Monday after struggling with a back injury.

He joined presenter Denise Van Outen and The Mummy Diaries’ Billie Faiers who had to leave due to injuries and Rufus Hound and Joe-Warren Plant were axed following positive Covid test results.

Sonny will join Colin Jackson, Faye Brookes, Rebekah Vardy  and Lady Leshurr for this week’s Movie-themed show.

The DJ was tight-lipped about plans for his routine with Angela Egan but did tell Lorraine: ‘It’s movie week this week and I can’t tell you what movie I’m doing but I am going to be a dancer in a movie.’

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV. Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
