Comedian Julia Morris finally explains her infamous 2015 Logies gaffe

Comedian Julia Morris finally explains her infamous Logies gaffe when she forgot to read out the nominees before announcing the winner

Julia Morris has addressed the most memorable gaffe in her career when she forgot to read out nominees for an award at the Logies in 2015.

The comedian, 52, said her blunder while presenting the award for Outstanding Entertainment Program was caused by one of her jokes falling flat.

The premise of the joke was Julia being on stage without a man by her side, but it required someone being in the audience who wasn’t actually there on the night.

‘I was on the stage presenting an award and I was doing a joke like, “They tried to get someone to present with me but they couldn’t come tonight,” and then they were going to do a close-up on the person,’ she explained on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa.

‘I said to [the team before going on stage], “Do let me know if those people aren’t in their seats because the joke won’t work,” and they’re like, “Yeah, fine, whatever, amateur. Off you go, lady.”

‘No one’s in their seat. I didn’t need a ballgown, I needed the “I told you so” T-shirt, and I just thought, “You know what? This joke is not working.” Very unlike a comic, I thought, “I’m going to abandon this, get grown up and get on with the award.”

‘Because that’s who people want to hear, who’s winning…’

Julia went on to announce the winner of the category, The Voice Australia, without reading the nominees first.

The Voice judges shot up from their seat, with huge smiles across their faces and made their way to the stage to accept the award.

But a lack of excitement from the audience had the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! host questioning what was going on.

‘The room was so weird because The Voice won, right? So I was like, “Is this an anti-Channel Nine thing? I don’t understand. This is a bad attitude in this room, someone just won an award you need to applaud them!”‘ Julia explained.

‘I hadn’t read out any of the nominees! And I’ve got Delta and Seal in front of me, and I’m like, “People are so disingenuous,” and then I thought, “Oh, my god! Who else thought they deserved the award more?”

‘That’s when it occurred to me… 12 months those people worked, they got their nominations, they waited for the big moment and they don’t even get their name read out on the night by this idiot!’
