Music producer Clive Davis revealed that he has been diagnosed with a medical condition know as Bell’s Palsy.

A representative for the 88-year-old record executive confirmed the diagnosis, which is not life-threatening, in a statement to Variety on Tuesday, adding that Davis is in ‘good spirits.’

The outlet also reported that due to his ailment, the annual Clive David Pre-Grammy Gala will be postponed several weeks after the Grammy Awards in March.

Health scare: Music producer Clive Davis revealed that he has been diagnosed with a medical condition know as Bell’s Palsy and will be postponing his annual Pre-Grammy Gala as a result, Variety reported on Tuesday

The 2021 Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala, which traditionally takes place the night before the Grammy Awards, is being moved to May this year.

While delays have become commonplace recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic (the Grammys themselves were postponsed) a rep for Davis told Variety that the date shift is due to the producer’s medical condition.

Clive Davis is currently dealing with a bout of Bell’s Palsy which is a sudden onset of weakness in facial muscles. According to the Mayo Clinic, the ailment is usually temporary, non-life threatening, doesn’t have an exact known cause and can occur at any age.

Davis is reportedly ‘in good spirits, is being treated with antibiotics and steroids and is expected to make a full recovery in six to eight weeks.

His annual gala – which is being done virtually due to the pandemic – will likely be rescheduled for May depending on Davis’ recovery.

The Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala was forced to pivot this year in light of COVID-19 and has already hosted a virtual part one soiree in January. The first event, held the night before the Grammy Awards were supposed to air, raised money for the Recording Academy’s MusicCares.

When Music’s Biggest Night was postponed from January 31 to March 14, Davis decided to organize a second virtual event which is the one now being delayed until spring.

Early in 2021, Grammy’s executive producer Ben Winston personally confirmed the news that the ceremony would be pushed several months, making things official just hours after a rep for the Recording Academy confirmed the news to Variety.

The statement, which came from Winston, the Recording Academy’s Harvey Mason Jr. and Jack Sussman of CBS, said: ‘After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host, and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd GRAMMY Awards to March 14th 2021.

‘The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right things to do.

‘Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.

The statement finished with a thanks to artists, staff, vendors and nominees for their ‘understanding, patience and willingness to work’ with the organization as they navigate ‘these unprecedented times.’

Additionally, the recent influx of COVID-19 in and around Los Angeles – the planned location for the ceremony – became an increasing concern.

Daily Show star Trevor Noah was set to host the 2021 awards honoring the best in music and it is expected he will resume that role when a new date is set.

Producers of this year’s show were already trying to get creative with how to make it work safely with socially distanced performances.

There was talk of having a limited audience, or possibly no audience, and putting on musical performances on multiple stages and locations. This year’s nominees were announced at the end of November during a virtual live-stream.
