The Australian actor and singer – who was competing on the show with professional skater Alexandra Schauman – was advised to rest, but had originally vowed to return on Sunday.

Former Neighbours star Jason said in a statement: ‘I’ve had back pain the past couple of days and I’m under doctor’s orders to take it easy and sit this week out.

‘I’m resting up, I’ll be watching from home and cheering everyone on and I look forward to returning next week.’

As the news of his exit was revealed, a source told The Sun: ‘It’s just utter carnage this year.

‘There’s injuries left right and centre, and COVID on top of that.No one could have foreseen this level of drop outs.’
