An optical illusion of a group of four friends having a whiskey has left social media users flummoxed.
In the baffling snap, Patrick DeIvernois, believed to be from the US, and three friends can be seen raising a glass after completing the 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail.
However, while many people can spot all four bottles of whiskey, only a few can see all four arms of the people holding them.
The bizarre image was first posted on Reddit and since on Twitter by Jen Gentleman, who penned: ‘My brain refuses to believe there are 4 people in this photo.’

Taking to Twitter, many were left baffled by the optical illusion, with one writing: ‘Nope, canny see it’ (pictured)
And many others commented on the bizarre optical illusion, saying: ‘I’m confused… why are there only “3” arms, yet “4” bottles?’
A second commented: ‘Nope canny see it.’
However, a closer inspection towards the left of the baffling photo shows that the fourth friend is donning a camouflage jacket, which makes his arm blend perfectly into the background, while his glove blends into Patrick’s tartan kilt.
Others wrongly guessed the fourth arm was the person standing behind Patrick – but that was just his backpack with a waterproof cover over it.
After finally sussing out the answer, many were left amused, with one writing: ‘This is literally the first time I’ve seen camouflage work.’

A second penned: ‘This is honestly the first time I’ve ever seen cameo print actually do its job,’ while a third pointed out: ‘All the times you don’t see it means it worked.’
A fourth added: ‘That’s the point of camo to confuse the brain even if for a moment because a moment is all a combatant needs,’ while a fifth joked: ‘This is the first time I’ve ever seen camouflage worn effectively on the internet and my mind is blown.’
Another added: ‘Wow, Camo really does work!’ while a final person admitted: ‘Oh yeah I immediately saw the four people. One at the bottom, right and behind the guy.
