Zara Larsson admits she used to deliberately stir up controversy on Twitter but now she’s calmer

Zara Larsson has admitted she used to deliberately stir up controversy online.

In a new interview, the Lush Life hitmaker, 23, confessed she would often voice her ‘extreme opinions’ on Twitter, but now sees the importance of having ‘civil conversations’ on the social media platform.

The Swedish musician, who is currently preparing for the release of her third album Poster Girl, said: ‘I had quite extreme opinions for some people, like when I said: ”I hate all men.”‘

The singer explained why she would play to the platform’s simplification of language to court controversy.

Zara added to The Guardian: ‘Saying: “Hey, I hate toxic masculinity because it’s bad for both men and women blah blah,” is just not a good-a** tweet.’

In now-deleted tweets, the songstress was infamous for her online personality and would share her grievances against men, once tweeting: ‘Man hating is my hobby’.

The media personality was also involved in feuds with fellow artist Chris Brown and YouTuber James Charles, and previously slammed sexist garments with gender stereotype slogans.

The former child star insisted she’s toned down her controversial tweeting as the older she gets, the more she realises it’s about having ‘a civil conversation’.

She said: ‘I’m really happy that I felt those strong emotions and I think I became louder the more hate I got, which is natural.

‘The older I get, however, the more I realise it’s about having a civil conversation. Something in me now just can’t feel as mad [at ignorance] as I used to be.’

However, Zara is currently too busy to debate people on social media as she is preparing for the release of her upcoming album Poster Girl on March 5.

She was recently romantically linked to dancer Lamin Holmén, with the singer reportedly about to let the world in on her secret romance in her new album.

The Love Me Land hitmaker has reportedly been dating the hunk for 18 months, after splitting from British model Brian Whittaker in August 2019, following two years of dating.

According to The Sun, the bombshell is enamoured with her new beau, who is said to have inspired her romantic new record.

Speaking of her new album, she said: ‘It’s super loved-up. I love to write about love and I love talking about love. I think I’m obsessed with it. It’s the reason we’re all alive and for me, it’s the whole point for our existence.

‘I’m the sort of person who falls in love with people in, like, four seconds. It’s just a really big part of who I am.’

And speaking to a Swedish newspaper about casting the dreamy dancer in the music video, Zara said: ‘I wanted it to feel intimate and passionate, and it came all natural because I love him.

‘We had a fantastic day of recording. It’s so nice when you know someone so well and feel safe.’

MailOnline had contacted representatives for Zara Larsson for comment.
