Eve Hewson reveals she ‘feels like an individual now’ with an identity separate from her father Bono

Eve Hewson has revealed she has enjoyed being able to ‘build her own identity’ separate from her famous father.

The actress, 29, is the daughter of U2 rocker Bono and Ali Hewson and knew from an early age she would never have any ‘anonymity’ no matter what career she chose.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: ‘To be honest, I was never going to have my anonymity and be a regular Joe.

‘I was always going to have eyes on me, whatever I did, so it’s been great to build my own identity and my own career and feel like I’m an individual now, as opposed to a part of something or someone else.’

Eve joked her dad is looking forward to the day someone asks him: ‘Are you Eve Hewson’s father?’ rather than people asking her about him.

The actresses parents were initially concerned about her choice to become an actress, given the additional scrutiny she would have to deal with as their daughter.

However, they soon realised she could handle it.

Eve’s latest project is Netflix series Behind Her Eyes, which follows a single mother who enters a world of mind games when she begins an affair with her psychiatrist boss, while also secretly befriending his mysterious wife.

Eve plays the mysterious wife of David (Tom Bateman) who embarks on an affair with lead character Louise (Simona Brown).

In the psychological thriller, Louise becomes embroiled in an unconventional love triangle with David and Adele, one that takes a dark and unexpected turn.

Behind Her Eyes is based on the best-selling book by Sarah Pinborough, and was adapted for series by Steve Lightfoot.

The star said she hates playing roles that are based on looks and wants to ‘puke’ whenever she reads a script about ‘the most beautiful girl in the room’.

She explained: ‘You’re putting yourself in a position where your job is to be attractive. Then you’re evaluated by the people who are hiring you, as to whether you are attractive “enough” – which is a very weird position to find yourself in.’

It comes after Eve recently admitted her father refused to hire ‘good-looking support bands’ because she was such a ‘little troublemaker’ in her teenage years.

Discussing her rebellious childhood and ‘hopeless’ love life in the Spring issue of Town and Country magazine, Eve said: ‘We were little troublemakers.

‘There got to a point in my teens when my dad couldn’t hire good-looking support bands any more. He was like, “No more boys in their twenties, please God!”

The Irish actress also discussed her current love life, which she admitted was ‘disappointing’ and revealed her hopes for the creation of ‘robot boyfriends’.

She said: ‘It’s hopeless out there. It’s really a disappointment. I’ve heard they’re creating these girlfriend robots and hopefully soon they’ll do boyfriend robots, so I think I’m just going to wait for those.’

Eve quipped: ‘You could just unplug them when they bother you.’

As well as discussing her career achievements, Eve also touched on her ‘loving’ relationship with her family.

She said: ‘We complain about each other all day long, but we’re genuinely kind of madly in love.’

‘There was the fear that I would go off to LA and become some celebrity kid running around on Rodeo Drive. I think any parent bringing up a kid in a certain lifestyle would have those fears.’
