Brandy and Monica reignite iconic feud as they recreate The Boy Is Mine from quarantine 23 years on

Brandy gave us a bop for the ages in 1998, when she and Monica went toe-to-toe over Mekhi Phifer.

And the Grammy winner has proven that even a pandemic can’t keep her from rehashing old rivalries.

She recently reignited her iconic feud with Monica, as they recreated The Boy Is Mine from quarantine, lip-syncing the memorable intro of the track in a TikTok, 23 years after dropping the collab.

Iconic collab: It was the lead single on both artists' second albums, Brandy's Never Say Never and Monica's The Boy Is Mine, earning both of them their first Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals

The 42-year-old wrote: ‘#duet with mondeenise love you Mo This was fun. #theboyismine @syraismith got me together.’

She recited the opening from home in a chic black poncho and matching stetson, as Monica, 40, got cozy in a white monogrammed robe to deliver her half.

The split-screen of the socially distanced recreation invoked nostalgia of the original video, which had the women harmonizing from opposite sides of a wall.

Brandy said during the show that she has the ‘the utmost love and respect’ for Monica, adding: ‘For somebody to start at 12 years old… the longevity of your career, nobody [knows] what you’ve been through.’

The feeling was mutual, as Monica told her: ‘The more we’re talked about, the more it came to be difficult, unnecessarily. And I really, really am a straight shooter and I really do admire what you’ve done musically and what you’ve had to endure personally.’
