Who’ll find love on our virtual date? This week it’s Joanna, 31, and Dan, 31

Joanna, 31, (pictured) is a solutions architect and has been single for three months

VITAL STATISTICS

Single for three months, no children.

Current role: Solutions architect

Would like to meet: Someone who wants a family in the future and is sporty, caring and honest.

I’m not interested in a man who just wants a bit of fun.

I’m afraid I laughed when Dan almost choked on a peanut

Joanna, 31

Dating Past?

I married my university boyfriend. We were together for eight-and-a-half years and split when I was 27.

I have had two relationships since; one lasted six months, and my three-year on-and-off relationship with an RAF pilot ended recently.

I’ve been on a couple of virtual dates in the past few months.

Pre-Date Nerves?

Generally, I don’t get nervous.

I think that’s because I played violin and performed ballet on stage as a child and, after university, I worked in sales cold calling.

If anything, I’m excited. I have a good job, my own flat and I’m pretty independent.

First Impressions?

Dan seemed like a really nice guy, but was fairly reserved at first. He’s not too built-up or too skinny.

I wore a red dress, but ditched my heels. I figured my date wouldn’t see my feet!

I’d organised sushi to be delivered from my favourite restaurant, Roka, and made myself a gin-based cocktail called a Bee’s Knees.

Easy To Talk To?

We bonded over the fact that we’ve both changed jobs during the pandemic, but have yet to physically meet our colleagues.

Dan was very open about how the past year has been hard for him after his mum passed away.

I found it easy to talk about deeper topics with him, which is a good sign.

I was joined on the call by my cat, who always wants to sit on me when I’m online.

She’s called Mia because she meows a lot.

JOANNA’S VERDICT: 8/10

LIKED? Dan seems to be a really genuine person.

REGRETS? None.

SEE HER AGAIN? Yes.

Embarrassing Moments?

Yes, Dan almost choked on a peanut. He was fine, but it was amusing and I’m afraid I laughed.

Did Sparks Fly?

I think so. Dan’s company is based in Canary Wharf in London, which is near my flat, so I suspect we’ll go for a socially distanced walk in the future.

I told him I had enjoyed our date — he agreed and we exchanged numbers.

Would you like to meet in person?

Yes, it was a good match. I’d like to find out if there is any chemistry between us and to do that we need to meet.

What do you think he thought of you?

While Dan is hard to read, we got on well. I think he liked me.

Would your friends like him?

Yes. I’ve been around too many banker-type boys and they now want me to meet someone normal.

VITAL STATISTICS

Single for six years, no children.

Current role: Technical lead

Would like to meet: A woman who is down to earth, bright and interested in the world.

She definitely won’t be all about the glitz and glamour.

My dad put me up for it… I think he’d approve of the result

Dan, 31

Dating Past?

I was in a four-year relationship in my early 20s but, since then, I’ve focused on my career. I’ve never really been into playing around.

Dating over the past year has been difficult, not least because my mum died. My heart wasn’t in it.

Pre-Date Nerves?

I Was a little bit nervous but really looking forward to it as well.

I’ve never been on a virtual or blind date before, but my dad put me forward for this.

He’s a bit of a Jack the lad whenever we go out, and doesn’t hesitate to tell attractive women I’m single.

First Impressions?

Joanna looked elegant in her dress. From what I could see, she has a nice home, too. I wore a shirt with a smart jumper.

Easy To Talk To?

We discussed where we’d like to travel when the pandemic is over.

Joanna wants to return to Ukraine where her father lives, as she really misses him, while I’d like to visit Australia with my dad.

We’re both into healthy lifestyles. Joanna likes the gym and spinning classes, and I love downhill mountain biking and climbing.

We made each other laugh, too. I choked on a nut and found myself gasping for breath, shouting: ‘I’m alive — just!’

Embarrassing Moments?

Joanna’s cat Mia kept meowing for some attention.

She was so loud that, at one point, Joanna had to pick her up and put her in front of the camera.

DAN’S VERDICT: 8/10

LIKED? Joanna is very easy to talk to.

REGRETS? None at all.

SEE HER AGAIN? Yes.

It was a funny point in the date.

Did Sparks Fly?

Yes, I’d say so. I’d like to learn more about Joanna.

She did say early on that she liked men to make the first move but, as the date progressed, she asked me for my number and I was happy to give it to her.

Would you like to meet in person?

Yes. I work near where Joanna lives, so we’re going to fix up a date to go for a walk.

What do you think she thought of you?

I’m unsure. The date went well though and we chatted for more than two hours.

Would your FRIENDS like her?

Joanna’s pretty cool and I know my friends, and my dad, would think the same.
