Netflix commissions new Australian teen surf drama series Surviving Summer

Netflix’s new teen surf drama series Surviving Summer is set to begin production in Australia this month.

The 10 episode drama is about a fierce Brooklyn teen named Summer Torres, played by Sky Katz, who is sent Down Under to live with family friends in a coastal town. 

The exciting new series will also star Kai Lewins, Savannah La Rain, Joao Gabriel Marinho and Lilliana Bowrey.

Surviving Summer will be filmed along the Victorian coast and was created by three-time Emmy nominated producer Joanna Werner.

‘I am so excited to start filming Surviving Summer all along the Great Ocean Road at some of the most stunning beach locations in the world,’ Joanna said in a statement.

‘We have assembled an amazing crew and cast who have been training hard to get ready for what will be an incredibly exciting and demanding shoot with drama, surfing, skating, stunts and more.’

Meanwhile, Toni Collette is currently filming her new Netflix drama Pieces of Her in Sydney.

It was originally supposed to be filmed in British Columbia, Canada, last year, but the Covid-19 pandemic saw the shoot delayed and production moved to Australia.

Pieces of Her is based on the 2018 novel by Karin Slaughter, and is about a young woman named Andrea who is caught up in a mass shooting at a diner.

According to What’s On Netflix, Toni will portray Laura Oliver, who is a mother with a mysterious past life.

The website also states Bella Heathcote and Lord of the Rings actor David Wenham will appear.

The series is getting plenty of buzz as it’s being produced by the same company behind HBO’s The Undoing and Netflix’s Anatomy of a Scandal.
