Paddington 3 gaining momentum as studio is ‘working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care’

A third installment of the Paddington films is currently in the works.

‘We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care – as with film 1 and 2,’ Studiocanal reps said on Wednesday in a statement to Variety.

The company will work with Heyday Films in addition to Paul King, who directed the first two live action films about the titular bear, but will not direct the third.

King is currently at the helm of the Willy Wonka movie for Warner Bros., which is set to be released in 2023.

Hugh Bonneville, who portrays Henry Brown in the film series, told The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 last week that the film was ‘somewhere on the horizon’ as ‘forward momentum’ was gaining with the production.

Both of the previous films have garnered strong results at the box office internationally, with the 2014 film earning $280 million, while the 2017 sequel made $225 million.

The latter film was hampered in the wake of the 2017 accusations against now-convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein, as his distribution firm, The Weinstein Company, went bust and sold the film to Warner Bros.
