If ironing is your most hated task, you probably avoid it for all but your most severely creased clothing, but Kirstie Allsopp has sparked a heated debate by  revealing she always irons her tea towels because it’s ‘therapeutic’ and ‘creates order’.

The presenter, 49, who divides her time between London and Devon, shocked many after sharing a picture of her ironing board laden with freshly ironed towels on Twitter.

Hundreds were quick to respond with one branding the chore ‘the stuff of nightmares’ while others said it was a ‘complete waste of time’.

Sharing the picture of her household work on social media, the mother-of two wrote: ‘I have ironing to do’, followed by another of the completed piles of towels with the caption ‘Done!’.

But some people were completely baffled by the fact she was taking the time to create a smooth pile of linen that will be used to dry the dishes, with one commenting: ‘Who the heck irons towels or tea towels?!’

Another said: ‘Life is waaaay too short to be ironing towels!’

Meanwhile someone else said:  ‘The only thing worth ironing are smart shirts… all else a complete waste of time!’

However she did admit that she draws the line at bath towles, saying: ‘No, just tea towels, I fold towels and put them under the ironing board to air’. 

After the reaction flooded in Kirstie responded saying: ‘I am absolutely LOVING ironing Twitter. It think I may become a single issue campaigner. 

‘Those who iron tea towels are not wasting their lives, they are creating order and providing themselves with a lot of free therapy. Join our ranks, you’ll never look back.’

One wrote: ‘To be fair, there is something quite therapeutic about ironing. Although I’ve barely done any since last March, as I’ve been WFH and have pretty much lived in t-shirts, joggers and hoodies since then’.
