He said: Kate and I are better than we have ever been or could have ever expected to be. We had couple’s therapy and we wouldn’t be together now without it.

‘It’s not because you need help to realise that you love each other, it’s just because you need to know simple skills like conflict resolution.’

The couple tied the knot in September 2018, following a five-year relationship, but experienced some problems in 2019, with Jeff pictured not wearing his wedding ring.

Jeff is a father to two sons, Freddie, 16, and Bobby, 17, from his relationship with the late Jade Goody, who died when they boys were four and five in 2009.

The media personality said: ‘It’s grown. It’s developed into something that is more than I could have asked for. It’s improving all the time’.

Last year, the pair credited lockdown for giving them a chance to work on their marriage and being able to spend more time together.

Speaking to HELLO! magazine, the pair said they were able to ‘pause and reset’ their marriage.

Jeff explained: ‘Now we are a million times better because we took the time to invest in ourselves.

‘I am so proud that the two of us have got to the point where things are more straightforward and more simple and easier than they have ever been between us.

Kate added: ‘For us, day to day, we have realised how much we love each other’s company. Marriage isn’t always easy and our struggles were often because we didn’t see each other. Now we are stronger than ever.’

Last month, Jeff detailed his children’s experience of the third nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

‘He’s not particularly academic’: Jeff has revealed his son Freddie has been struggling with homeschooling and plans on becoming a barber after completing his GCSEs

In the first episode of his new podcast Only Human, he admitted his son Freddie has been struggling with homeschooling during the pandemic as he ‘isn’t particularly academic’.

The Shipwrecked star also shared the teen’s hopes of becoming a barber once he completes his GCSEs, while his oldest kid Bobby has been on a ‘voyage into self-development’ throughout the global crisis.

Jeff shared: ‘There are a lot of parents out there that are having an absolute nightmare with home-schooling. I’ve got Freddie, my youngest is 16.

‘He’s in his GCSE year. I mean, imagine of all the years it can happen to you within your education, for it to be literally the most important one is really unlucky. Freddie has never loved school. He’s not particularly academic.

‘I’ve always been very mindful of not squeezing the square peg through the round hole as it were.

‘He also knows what he wants to do in his apprenticeship. He wants to be a barber. And so as a result, it’s almost like; right, all we’ve got to do is really get [him ready] for the next six months and get him the other side of it so he doesn’t have to re-sit anything.’

The former Grays Athletic footballer went on to reflect on Bobby’s ‘self-educating’ journey during the past few months.

Jeff said of the aspiring model: ‘Bobby has been on a real journey. I mean, up until a couple of months ago, maybe he still really didn’t know who he was, what path he was taking, what he wanted to do next.

‘And then all of a sudden, I think in the whole midst of lockdowns, he just went on a bit of a voyage into self-development. And, you know, it wasn’t even anything that I had instigated.’
