A dopey house seller was caught growing £20,000 worth of cannabis in his garage after an off-duty police officer came round for a viewing.

The policeman was being shown around the Colchester property by an estate agent at the weekend when they came upon the weed factory in the garage.

The officer put a tip into colleagues from the Colchester community team who raided the property on Monday.

The team found £20,000 worth of cannabis growing in the garage, with police saying in a Facebook post on Monday that the occupant ‘will be spoken to in relation to cannabis cultivation offences’.

The post detailing the incident has been liked more than a thousand times with social media users in disbelief at the discovery and desperate to know one thing.

‘The question we all want to know is did they put an offer in?,’ Actual Radio in Colchester wrote under the post.

‘You can’t make it up! I bet the off-duty officer couldn’t wait to call that one in. Brilliant,’ Dave Johnson responded.

Other users were more concerned about the fate of the illicit product. 

‘About a week left on them until harvest…what a waste,’ one wrote.
