Piers Morgan has branded Anthea Turner ‘despicable’ after she posted a fat-shaming meme of an obese woman in a wheelchair wearing a coronavirus mask.

The TV personality, 60, shared the picture to her Twitter account of the woman telling a non-mask wearing person: ‘Put a mask on! You’re putting my health at risk!’

Anthea has been widely criticised for the post after sharing it with the caption ‘go for it’, with people accusing her of promoting fat-shaming and ableist attitudes.

The controversial post was soon noticed by Piers, 55, who replied to her and said: ‘What the hell is this? Have you lost your mind, Anthea? Just despicable.’

Anthea appeared to have doubled down on her original tweet, as she later reinforced her point by accusing people of acting ‘selfishly’ amid the pandemic.

She wrote: ‘I’m incensed by the selfish attitudes of people who can’t see we actually are ‘all in this together’ & wilful destruction has an impact on us all especially those with other illnesses pushed down the line & charities who are missing out on funding. We have to take responsibility.’

Suggesting the government were at fault for keeping fast food chains open, she added: ‘If the government put half the amount of money into health as they have in locking us up we wouldn’t be in this mess. Keep McDonald’s open and close gyms many council run and open air – Great.’

Labour MP Jess Phillips also weighed in on the tweet, and posted on Friday morning: ‘The Anthea Turner thing this morning has just about done me in. 

‘I just wish the idiots would just admit that the wind on their face is more important than my sister in laws life while she has chemo. Stop with the god damn hierarchy of whose life matters!!!’
