Kasey Chambers hints that Sophie Monk could make a move to country music

Sophie Monk could return to music as a country singer after enjoying ‘jam’ sessions with Kasey Chambers

She was a bona fide pop star in the early noughties, but Sophie Monk could be making a move to country music in the near future.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph on Friday, her close friend, country musician Kasey Chambers, said Sophie, 41, has a talent for the genre.

‘Sophie loves country music, when we get together and have a little jam, I don’t know if it’s because she’s with me, but she sings country songs and she sings beautiful country harmonies when we sing together,’ the 44-year-old said.

She added: ‘It’s so lovely. So it wouldn’t surprise me if she has that flavour in the music she’s doing, I’ll certainly be encouraging more of that in her.’

Sophie has made no secret of her passion for country music, and admitted she’d love to collaborate with her friend.

‘I’d love to sing again. Kasey Chambers wants to work with me,’ she told The Daily Telegraph in February 2017.

‘Kasey has written me a song and it was beautiful when I heard it. It is just for fun, I don’t care who takes to it or picks on me or whatever but, yeah, I miss it.’

In December, Sophie debuted new music on Instagram, her first release in 16 years.

Revealing the untitled jazz-infused number, she gushed: ‘Song I recorded. I’d love your honest opinion. I’m ready for criticism eek.’

She added that she’d recorded the soulful song in a bedroom with Gary Pinto, who has worked with artists including Guy Sebastian, Jimmy Barnes and Taylor Dayne.

‘The lyrics mean a lot to me. I only care what you guys think,’ she continued.

In the sultry song, Sophie’s raspy voice is heard singing the cryptic lyrics: ‘I’ve seen some things, that would make a grown man cry. So many things, that I have to leave behind. So complicated, but I prefer the simple life.’
