This Morning secures its highest ratings in 19 YEARS

The This Morning team will have cause for celebration this week as it’s been reported that the show has scored it’s highest ratings in 19 years. 

The ITV daytime show, primarily presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, is proving to be more popular than ever, as it bags record ratings after nearly two decades on air.

The success comes after Alison Hammond and Dermott O’Leary have proved to be a ratings hit as the new duo got higher ratings than their predecessors Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

This Morning saw the the first four weeks of 2021 average a huge 1.4million viewers, which is up nearly 50 per cent on the same period last year. 

As well as seeing a rise in figures up from the same time last year, the show on February 2nd saw a whopping peak audience of 1.9million tuning in to watch, according to The Mirror.

It comes after Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary reportedly got higher ratings on This Morning than their predecessors Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

The presenter, 45, and X-Factor host, 47, have proven to be a hit on the show as they were said to have drawn in 1.41 million viewers during their debut show last month.

According to reports from The Sun , the pair received 200,000 more viewers tuning into their show than Ruth and Eamonn’s final appearance in December. 

The publication claimed that while Alison and Dermot drew in more viewers, Ruth and Eamonn had a bigger audience share of 23 per cent compared to their successor’s 21 per cent.

Eamonn and Ruth, who presented the Friday morning slot for 14 years, will host the ITV show from Monday to Thursday during the schools’ six-week summer holiday. 

It’s a good time for the channel as in December, Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women all achieved their biggest share of viewing since 2009 with an overall share of 25.3 per cent across the morning, marking an 11-year high.

This Morning had its highest share since 2013 while Lorraine had its second highest share of viewing. 

Good Morning Britain enjoyed a 25.4 per cent share, with the programme drawing an average of 929,000 overnight viewers, peaking at 1.4 million.

Presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid have seen their ratings steadily climb during lockdown following Piers’ hard-hitting interviews with members of parliament. 

The show is directly followed by Lorraine at 9am, with host Lorraine Kelly achieving a share of 25.8 per cent.

This winning streak then continued into This Morning at 10am, which drew a 29.1 per cent share of viewing. 

It was the highest share since 2013, excluding the Royal Wedding of Princess Eugenie of York in October 2018, which aired as a This Morning special. 

Loose Women then rounded out the record run with a 18 per cent share between 12:30 and 13:29, its highest share since February 2019. 

Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women air on ITV weekdays from 6am and are available on ITV Hub.
