‘What an experience!’ Body Coach Joe Wicks strips down to his shorts as he gives fans an update on his freezing outdoor ice bath challenge

Joe Wicks set himself another arduous challenge on Tuesday after teaming up with extreme athlete Wim Hof for his latest motivational YouTube video.

Hof, commonly referred to as The Iceman, is renowned for taking on extreme sports in freezing temperatures and at 61-years old still holds the record for completing a marathon across snow and ice in his bare feet.

Inspired and encouraged by the eccentric Dutchman, self-styled fitness guru Joe, 34, endeavored to complete his own below freezing challenge by taking an ice bath in his back garden.

With Hof providing essential advice regarding breath control and conditioning via Zoom, the personal trainer stripped down to his shorts and readied himself for the plunge.

Both he and wife Rosie – who filmed the challenge for his YouTube channel – had already filled a tin bath with freezing cold water and large chunks of ice, with temperatures plummeting to just 1.3 degrees Celsius.

Sharing a series of images from his attempt on Instagram, Joe wrote: ‘Just had my first ever ice water exposure in 1.3 degree C water. I’ve never felt more alive in my life. What an experience.’

While Joe wasn’t required to completely submerge in freezing water, the fitness nut still opted for full immersion by ducking his head beneath the surface.

Managing an impressive three minutes before pulling himself out of the bath, Joe admitted he felt completely energized by the experience – despite his feet going completely numb.

The challenge comes after Joe recently dressed up in a giant whoopee cushion costume while working out to keep his daughter Indie entertained at home.

He shared a series of heartwarming clips to his Instagram Stories as he danced with his daughter, two, in his workout room.

Joe shared a clip of the pair dancing along to Olly Murs’ Dance With Me Tonight and captioned it: ‘Indie joined me for a boogie today’.

The fitness expert, who is also father to son Marley, 13 months, also shared a snap of himself standing in a squat rack in the costume captioned: ‘FML’.

Joe appeared to have some difficulty dealing with the heat in the costume as he posted a snap of himself covered in sweat and wrote: ‘Dress up as a whoopee cushion and you are labelled a p**t’.
