Foul-mouthed Sydney eshays HIJACK The Kyle and Jackie O Show

Foul-mouthed Sydney eshays HIJACK The Kyle and Jackie O Show – and label host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson a ‘DOG’

A segment about the eshay subculture on The Kyle and Jackie O Show went off the rails when foul-mouthed youths bombarded the program with obscene calls.

Radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson opened the lines for eshays last week, but things quickly got out of hand.

The presenters had to distinguish the ‘real’ eshays from the pretenders, and one caller didn’t take kindly to having their credentials questioned.

Callers: Last week, The Kyle & Jackie O Show was hijacked by members of the Australian sub-culture known as eshays

Kyle, 49, asked the first caller what his graffiti tag was, to which they replied: ‘Sick c-**t, but with a k.’

Jackie, 46, started giggling and was promptly interrupted by the caller, who asked: ‘What are you laughing at, you dog?’

She laughed nervously and said: ‘If he’s putting this on, it’s great… if he’s not, I’m a bit scared.’

An eshay is Australian slang for a lad who purchases ‘fresh gear’ in an attempt to achieve a ‘gangster’ appearance.

Favoured labels for the fashionable eshay include Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste, paired with Nautica, Adidas, Under Armour and Ellesse.

Some eshays scramble words and put ‘ay’ on the end in a form of pig Latin. For example, ‘eetswa’ means ‘sweet’ and ‘chill’ becomes ‘illchay’..

The term eshay is similar to the UK phrase ‘chav’ and can be interchangeable with ‘lad’, which in turn sometimes becomes ‘adlay’.

‘Eshay’ may have started as ‘eshay adlay’ – pig Latin for ‘he’s lad’ – or it could be related to ‘sesh’, which means a prolonged period of drug consumption.

Last week Kyle also warned listeners of the show that the teenage sub-culture is more than just a passing fad.

‘They are not to be mucked around with these eshays,’ the 49-year-old said during a separate segment.

He added that the average eshay ‘looks like a 10-year-old boy’ – but looks can be deceiving.

‘You can be getting smacked on in the train by one of these,’ he said. ‘You’ve got to be careful.’
