Viewers slam This Morning segment advertising expensive baking gadgets that cost a whopping £400

A segment on expensive kitchen gadgets left This Morning viewers unimpressed.

Alice Beer was presenting expensive a tongue-in-cheek segment on gadgets to ‘zhuzh’ things up in the kitchen, judging whether they’re good enough to ‘justify’ splurging.

However, the segment backfired due to the whopping prices of some of the pieces of equipment, with a cake factory by Tefal costing £169.95, and a £99.95 Hotel Chocolat velvetiser leaving viewers frustrated.

Even show hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond could not hide their shock at some of the price tags, with Alison making faces at the camera.

Disgruntled viewers felt Alice was pushing useless and expensive items they could not afford, and said they would be sticking to the oven, with the items adding up to a whopping £399.99.

Alice, leading her segment from home, said she tried each gadget herself to see if they were worth the price.

‘I think everyone’s a bit bored in their kitchen,’ she said, ‘We want one more piece of equipment to zhuzh it all up a bit.

‘I’ve got some pieces of equipment here, that you didn’t really know you needed in your kitchen,’ she added, admitted the machines were not kitchen essentials.

She then presented all the machines, showcasing their features and price tags.

She started with a waffle maker from Breville, costing £34.99.

‘It’s a bit of a thing to keep in the kitchen to just justify its existence on just making waffles,’ Alice admitted

And while she called the waffle maker ‘basically a hot plate,’ she said she could justify the price of £34.99

She moved on to the Hotel Chocolat velvetiser, that promises to make barista-grade hot chocolate with real flaked chocolate instead of powder, with the controversial price tag of £99.95.

‘I’d like to see you try to justify the existence of that: the hotel chocolate hot chocolate velvetiser,’ she said.

‘It comes in three different colours, this is the copper one,’ she said, holding the model to the camera.

‘Even if you never use it it’s worth having it in your kitchen,’ she said, adding ‘If you can afford the £99 for this, it’s worth it.’

However, the price caused a shocked Alison Hammond to make a face to the camera, mouthing the price.

‘It’s a lot of money, that,’ Alison told Alice.

‘It is a lot of money but frankly if you think about it, if you have your hot chocolate every Saturday, it will pay for itself,’ Alice replied.

She moved on to the Vonshef popcorn maker, which costs £34.95.

She said the popcorn maker, which can prepare a bowl full of butter popcorn in only two minutes, was worth its price.

The most expensive items of the segment was the Tefal Cake Factory, which costs £169.99

‘How can I justify a 170 worth of plastic sitting on my kitchen surface? Well, I can’t, said I, and I tried it,’ Alice said.

The gadget expert said the cake factory, which she had used to make a carrot cake and meringues, was good ‘if you are a little bit unsure about the oven and turning things up and down, it’s a lovely introduction.’

‘That I would justify, but it’s 169 quid,’ she admitted.

She said an extravagant chocolate fountain priced £34.99 could be justified for a special occasion.

The only item that Alice said would not be worth it was the one with the smallest price tag, an ice cream roller coasting £25, saying: ‘even my teenagers could not make it work.’

Viewers were not impressed with the price tags on the items, with many saying they were just too high.

‘£170 for a cake maker,’ one said.

‘£170 for a cake factory? Wtf? What’s wrong with an oven,’ said another.

‘WE CAN’T AFFORD IT,’ one wrote.

‘£100 for something just to admire in your kitchen. Get real,’ one said.

‘Why buy that when you can just cook one in an oven?’ asked another.

‘Well done Alison, about time someone called her out for constantly pushing expensive items,’ said one.
