Jessica Hart reveals her daughter Baby-Rae is suffering from colic and reflects on motherhood

Australian model Jessica Hart and her race driver fiancé James Kirkham welcomed their daughter, Baby-Rae, on November 17. 

And the Australian model has reflected on motherhood in a candid interview with PEOPLE magazine. 

The 34-year-old new mum said she has been busy nursing her newborn who has been suffering with colic.  

‘Unfortunately the poor little thing has colic so we have days with endless screaming that we can’t do much about,’ she said. 

Colic is sudden crying and fussing that often occurs during the newborn stage. 

Asked how she’s settling into motherhood, Jessica admitted it’s been a blissful ride from the get go. 

‘Baby is everything I ever imagined and so much more,’ she told the US publication. 

She added that she’s seen a different side to her 36-year-old partner James, who is also a father to six-year-old daughter Wren from a previous relationship. 

‘He is so hands on. They go on daddy-daughter adventures all the time,’ the model told WHO magazine earlier this month. 

‘We’re very much still in our little newborn bubble. I don’t know what’s going on with the world at the moment. It’s just me and her getting through each day. We’re both learning together. It’s really cool,’ she added. 

In November, Jessica and James sparked headlines when they named their daughter Baby, after the popular character from 1980s film, Dirty Dancing. 

Jessica said she opted to add a personal touch to the name, too. 

‘My legal name is Jessica-Rae after my mother Rae and I wanted Baby to have something relating to me in her name as, naturally, she takes Kirkham as a last name,’ she explained.

‘I was never a fan of the double last names so we’ve given Baby the hyphenated Rae too. Her legal name is Baby-Rae Kirkham, but we just call her Baby.’ 

But one person in particular that wasn’t happy with the decision: Jessica’s friend Sasha Benz, who named her daughter Baybi almost three years ago.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told The Sun-Herald the naming had caused a rift between the two women, but Sasha confirmed to Daily Mail Australia the pair have since patched things up. 

‘Of course Jess and I are still friends. We chatted it out a few weeks back – and I am happy she has a name she loves for her beautiful girl,’ Sasha said at the time.

A source told the Sun-Herald that Sasha was ‘devastated’ her close friend would copy her daughter’s ‘unique’ name – and while she didn’t dispute this, she did confirm their feud was well and truly over.

‘This is her moment and I want her to enjoy this beautiful part of becoming a mother,’ Sasha added.

‘Baybi is almost three now and our new babies are only weeks apart, so it’s more important that they all grow up knowing there are more important things to care about, and both Jess and I agree on that.’
