Coming 2 America official trailer: Eddie Murphy’s Prince Akeem prepares son to be King of Zamunda

Eddie Murphy is back as the beloved Prince Akeem in a new trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s Coming 2 America.

Nearly 32 years after landing in Queens, New York, Akeem is back in town on a quest to not only find his long-lost son, but also bring him to Zamunda where he is heir to the throne.

The trailer opens with bustling scenes of the city and flashes ‘an icon returns’ before Akeem and his best friend Semmi (Arsenio Hall) stumble upon old hang outs.

Classic: Nearly 32 years after landing in Queens, New York, Akeem is back in town on a quest to not only find his long-lost son, but also bring him to Zamunda where he is heir to the throne

‘Hey whatchu doing back here,’ Akeem is greeted at the barber shop before revealing he fathered a child and is on a quest to finally find him. ‘No child support for 30 years and you came back? You’s a dummy!’

After finding his son Lavelle (played by Jermaine Fowler) and his mother Mary (portrayed by Leslie Jones), he offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to become crowned royalty.

‘He’s supposed to be the prince of like Wakanda?’ Mary said upon meeting Akeem.

‘Wakanda is a fictional place,’ the prince reminded Mary. ‘Zamunda is a very real nation.’

The group travels back to Zamunda where Akeem introduces his new family to old and must decide on a new heir to the throne despite one of his daughters already pining for the position.

Craig Brewer directed the sequel, with a screenplay by Kenya Barris, David Sheffield, Justin Kanew and Barry Blaustein.
