On how she handles being in the limelight, the catwalk queen said: ‘The way that I’ve dealt with a lot of the negative attention is…I’ve talked it a lot through with a therapist, and I do therapy consistently…

‘I’m also married to someone that’s been dealing with this a lot longer than I have, to an extremely, like the highest level it could possibly be.

‘I think being able to share that world with somebody that understands it even better than I do has been so helpful.’

The media personality also reflected on learning how to accept criticism from social media users as she added: ‘The biggest thing for me with social media was the battle of…for a while strangers made me feel like I had to explain myself.

‘In reality, I don’t owe them anything. It took me a while to get there and understand that, because I’m kind of a perfectionist and I don’t want people to hate me or be mad at me.

‘I want to be like ”Hey I’m actually not this person that you think I am”. I just realised that there’s people on the internet that want to just hate you because they are not happy with themselves…

‘The more I’ve been able to break that down with a therapist [and] the more I realise it has nothing to do with me, or my personal character, I felt a lot more freedom.’

As well as therapy, the blonde also counts prayer as one of her methods to keep her mental state in a good condition.

Hailey detailed: ‘I think for me, meditation a lot of the time, means praying. My beliefs are a very big part of my life, and my faith is a very big part of my life.

‘I think being able to take all of the burdens I feel and being able to release that and pray about it…and to have my own conversation with God, and being able to let it go that way, is extremely important to me and extremely helpful.’

The fashion star went on to stress the importance of preserving a consistent fitness and skincare regime as she shared: ‘Exercise is another thing that keeps my mind…and my body really healthy.

‘I really like Pilates and boxing for cardio. And I’ll do a couple of sessions a week in the gym, weight training and cardio…I used to be a ballet dancer so Pilates for me gets my body personally in the best shape because it’s very elongating.

‘And a lot of the movements in Pilates are very similar to dance. And I think that’s why I identify with and like it so much.

‘I’m pretty consistent with my daytime and night-time routine, which is a double cleanse – first an oil-based cleanser, and then a gentle foaming [cleanser]; a serum or two, depending on if I want to layer more things, a moisturiser.

‘And I always wear SPF every single day. I think if I had understood even younger than 24 that SPF was so important, I probably would have done it sooner. But I think I’ll be happy that I even started in my 20s.’

In January 2020, her husband confirmed he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease – an illness caused by a bacteria that is transmitted to humans through a tick bite.

WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?

Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria that is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks.

The most common symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, fatigue and a skin rash called erythema migrans.

The disease can typically be treated by several weeks of oral antibiotics.

But if left untreated, the infection can spread to the joints, heart and nervous symptoms and be deadly.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE INFECTED?

During the first three to 30 days of infection, these symptoms may occur:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle and joint aches
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Erythema migrans (EM) rash

The rash occurs in approximately 80 per cent of infected people.

It can expand to up to 12 inches (30 cm), eventually clearing and giving off the appearance of a target or a ‘bull’s-eye’.

Later symptoms of Lyme disease include:

  • Severe headaches and neck stiffness
  • Additional rashes
  • Arthritis with joint pain and swelling
  • Facial or Bell’s palsy
  • Heart palpitations
  • Problems with short-term memory
  • Nerve pain

On how his infection changed her perspective on health, the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin – who has also suffered from Lyme Disease in the past – stated: ‘I think it definitely makes you more aware of your health.

‘I think it makes you pay more attention to how you feel and different symptoms…Lyme disease is an interesting thing because a lot of people don’t believe it’s real, and a lot of people think it’s BS. But I’ve had it before, I’ve dealt with it.

‘My husband has it and deals with it very deeply. I think it’s about finding the right doctors who believe in getting to the bottom of any health issues that you might have.’
