Festive February! People reveal they STILL haven’t taken their Christmas trees down – nearly six WEEKS after December 25th – in a bid to beat the lockdown blues

  • BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin shared a photo of her Christmas tree, saying she’d decided to keep it up to  ‘bring a smile’ during the third lockdown
  • Many people responded, sharing photos of their own trees still looking resplendant, despite it being 38 days after December 25th 
  • Decorations are traditionally taken down before Twelfth Night, which falls on January 6th – but some said they intended to keep their trees until Easter

People desperate to hang on to a bit of festive cheer during the gloomiest lockdown so far have been sharing photos of their Christmas decorations – nearly six weeks after December 25th came and went. 

BBC Breakfast News presenter Louise Minchin shared a photo of her ornately decorated tree – still going strong – on Twitter and was inundated with photos of other yuletide decorations that haven’t yet been taken down by owners keen to keep the Christmas sparkle alive. 

Decorations are traditionally taken down before Twelfth Night, which falls on January 6th but today marks a whopping 38 days since families were allowed to briefly congregate to celebrate.

The presenter told her 198,000 followers on social media: ‘The weather is miserable so I have turned these lights on again to cheer me up. 

‘The Christmas tree keeping me going, I hope it brings a smile to some of you too.’

Others quickly shared their own snaps of their still-twinkling lights.  

@BernardeRooney’s bedecked tree looked just as it might have in early December, festooned in shiny red decorations and strings of white lights.

One family had set a date to take their tree down, Candlemas, a holy day in the Christian calendar which commemorates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple.  

@donlinch explained: ‘We are keeping ours up until Candlemas, which is Tuesday.’
