Basil Zempilas has set the record straight after Kyle Sandilands claimed the two men once competed for the affections of the same woman.
The Mayor of Perth, 49, branded Kyle’s version of events ‘absolutely bull dust’ on his Triple M breakfast show on Thursday.
‘Like most things with Kyle, there is a tiny, tiny skerrick of truth,’ began the former Weekend Sunrise host.

Basil said he was ‘actually related’ to the woman in the question, and was therefore never going to marry her, but said they were in the same friendship circle.
Kyle, 49, had claimed on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday that Basil had romantic feelings for the woman and that her family had wanted them to marry – but he was obviously mistaken as they’re related.
He addressed Basil’s version of events on air on Friday, and admitted he was wrong.

‘Basil went on his radio show at Triple M in Perth yesterday and set the record straight on what really happened, and then I realised his version of the story is correct,’ he confessed.
Kyle’s longtime co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson lambasted her colleague, and told him he ‘always gets the details wrong’ when it comes to events that happened years ago.
‘My apologies. He wasn’t trying to bang his cousin, they [the family] just loved Basil. “Oh, Basil this, Basil that…”‘ he continued.

‘So, my apologies to Basil Zempilas. You weren’t trying to root your own cousin, you were just always talked about like you were superior… And I think I got jealous or something.’
Kyle had shared the inaccurate anecdote about Basil during an interview with Sunrise co-anchor Sam Armytage on Wednesday morning.

Kyle claimed that years earlier, he’d been involved in a love triangle with Basil while working at a radio station in Perth.
In a bizarre turn of events, Kyle claimed he’d ended up ‘engaged by mistake’ after the woman he was seeing bought an engagement ring.
‘I was caught up in this whole thing. Anyway, Basil was the one the family wanted her to marry,’ he said.

Sam, 44, interrupted to say Kyle had ‘cut Basil’s grass’.
‘I cut Basil’s grass. I cut way more than the grass, but anyway, that didn’t work out,’ he replied.
Jackie, 45, then said the woman had chosen Kyle over Basil, and he added: ‘She did, yes. And then I walked away from the whole relationship.’
Of course, they were both mistaken: Basil never had romantic feelings for the woman in question because they were related.

Kyle said he never considered the relationship to be serious, and confessed he was also ‘sleeping with seven other people at the radio station’ he was working at.
He claimed to suffer from ‘commitment-phobia’, and said that had prevented him from settling down with the woman.
Basil has been married for 12 years to wife Amy Graham and they have three children together. Kyle has been dating his former assistant Tegan Kynaston for over a year.
