WeFail: Jared Leto, 49, has been cast opposite Anne Hathaway, 38, as the co-founder of the disastrous real estate company WeWork in an upcoming AppleTV+ limited series, the company announced on Friday

The forthcoming series is based on the hit Wondery podcast WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork and is being helmed by Lee Eisenberg who will  serve as showrunner as well as co-write and executive produce.

‘WeCrashed will follow the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible,’ Apple said in a press release.

WeWork, a tech friendly shared workspace real estate company, was hatched by Adam Neumann and friend Miguel McKelvey back in when they founded co-working space Greendesk.

The concept took off and eventually turned into WeWork, which at its peak had coworking spaces in more than 110 cities in 29 countries with a valuation of $47billion.

At the time, Neumann was put on a par with the likes of Steve Jobs as a Silicon Valley innovator who would change the world.

But WeWork’s planned flotation on the stock market stalled and investors soured on the company, causing its value to plummet to just $10billion.

Neumann, who served as chief executive, essentially drove the briefly thriving company straight into the ground with his hard partying ways.

Initially, his fun, boozy leadership style – where dance parties were more common than meetings – helped the company become one of the hottest tech startups.

In his book, Billion Dollar Loser: The Epic Rise and Fall of WeWork, Reeves Wiedeman described how ex-employees claimed that Neumann would blast music at party volumes and scream at anyone who asked for it to be turned down.

He also reportedly demanded that cases of Don Julio 1942 tequila were at every office and would ‘lose his s***’ if they were not there and staffer said that he would schedule meetings for 2am and then be 45 minutes late.

Last October Neumann, 41, agreed to leave the company after its Japanese investors SoftBank bought $1billion of stock from him to get him out.

WeCrashed is not the only Wondery podcast that is being turned into a series at the streaming network, a second, The Shrink Next Door is also being produced.

Based off of a 2019 pod, The Shrink Next Door boasts another all-star cast including Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Kathryn Hahn.
