Let meow go! Naughty dog sabotages his feline friend’s escape by holding him back from climbing over pet gate

  • This cat in China ended his escape in defeat thanks to his cheeky furry friend
  • Mi Bu, a British shorthair in China, is filmed struggling to climb over a pet barrier
  • A Shiba Inu called Mi Yuan eagerly held the moggie down to stop him moving
  • The pair enjoy playing together but also often annoy each other, their owner said

This is the amusing moment a cat’s ‘jailbreaking’ mission was sabotaged by his naughty furry friend.

Mi Bu, a British shorthair living in south China’s Guizhou province, is filmed struggling to climb over a pet gate while being held down by his buddy, a Shiba Inu called Mi Yuan.

Mr Wu, the owner who captured the scene, told MailOnline that his pair of pets had a love-and-hate friendship as they loved playing together but also annoyed each other sometimes.

Mi Bu’s attempt to escape was spotted by his owner on Saturday when Mr Wu saw the three-year-old British shorthair pacing back and forth in front of the pet barrier.

Mr Wu, who owns four cats and a dog, said he placed the gate to mainly stop the four-year-old Shiba Inu from going upstairs as most of the cats could easily jump across it – except for Mi Bu who weighs eight kilos (18 pounds).

‘Probably because Mi Bu is a little bit overweight,’ the owner told MailOnline. ‘[He] kept walking back and forth, trying to jump across it. But he just couldn’t do it.’

Intrigued by his cat’s determination, Mr Wu started filming the moggie when he was surprised to see Mi Bu’s furry friend rushing to sabotage the feline’s escape.

Amusing footage shows the moggie struggling to climb towards the top of the barrier while the canine was eagerly trying to hold him down.

After much efforts from both sides, Mi Bu finally came back down, ending his mission in defeat.

‘I was surprised that Mi Yuan was trying to discipline the cat for us by stopping it escaping,’ Mr Wu said jokingly.

According to the pet owner, the pair of furry friends enjoy a love-and-hate friendship as they love playing together but also step onto each other’s toes at times.

The footage quickly became trending after the owner shared it on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok.

One amused commenter wrote: ‘I thought the dog was trying to help the cat, but it turned out to be a cheeky one!’

Another one said: ‘The cat almost made it, thanks to its naughty teammate!’

Apparently, this is not the British Shorthair’s first claim to fame.

Last year, Mi Bu became an internet sensation after Mr Wu posted a video of the feline waking up with a very startled face following a surgical operation.

At least 15 million people watched the minute-long hypnotic clip on Chinese video platform Douyin and many more have done so on Twitter-like Weibo.
