The next Bluey? Bondi Rescue star Bruce ‘Hoppo’ Hopkins lands unlikely new gig on Kangaroo Beach cartoon

He’s one of the world’s most recognised lifeguards.

And Bondi Rescue’s Bruce ‘Hoppo’ Hopkins will now help educate children on beach safety as part of a new cartoon.  

Bruce, 52, and fellow lifesaver Craig Riddington were both approached to consult on the new series, titled Kamgaroo Beach.

‘It’s surprising to me that something like this hasn’t been done sooner to be honest,’ Hopkins told The Daily Telegraph this week.

‘I think it’s fantastic,’ he said of the animated series.

‘I have been pushing water safety for 30 years, so to be able to now put all of my experience and knowledge towards something like this, that is designed to educate kids, is such a genuine thrill.’

Kangaroo Beach will follow the adventures of a group of native Aussie animals navigating life around the ocean.

‘Four junior lifeguards, kangaroo Pounce, koala Frizzy, wombat Neville and platypus Gemma are on their way to becoming heroes of Kangaroo Beach, under the guidance of grown-up lifeguards Bondi, Sandy and Big Trev.’

The animated series has been tipped to be a hit and already been likened to acclaimed children’s animation Bluey, also on ABC Kids.

The upcoming new series will feature the voices of comedian Kitty Flanagan and renowned British-Australian voice actor Rupert Degas.

Bruce is understood to have been sought out by the show’s creator and former Thomas and Friends writer Tim Bain.

Kangaroo Beach starts January 25 on ABC Kids
