AFL great Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico was shocked to find that his 9,000 Instagram follower count was nothing in comparison to Alli Simpson’s one million.  

And on Thursday’s episode of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! he pleaded with viewers to help him reach his goal of a million followers by asking them to follow him.

The 62-year-old said: ‘My goal is now to get a million people. How cool would that be? A million people.

‘So, on Instagram, please follow me and we’ll DM each other,’ he urged.

Viewers were quick to help get him on track to his reach his goal.

An early screen shot at 7.39pm showed his follower count at 14,200, but just one minute later his number jumped to 16,700.  

A fan shared a screen shot of Dipper’s follower status that showed a count of 18,600 followers at 7.41pm, and wrote: ‘Let’s see if it rises.’

Channel 10 got behind his plea and tweeted: ‘#GETDIPPERTO1MILLY get this campaign trending y’all.’ 

Other followers were keen to get a direct message from the footy star including one who said: ‘I followed dippa currently waiting on my dm,’ as a second added: ‘Alright Dipper better DM me after this.’

Viewers were keeping an eye on his growing follower numbers, one noted: ‘Dipper went from 14k followers to 21k followers in 2 minutes.’
