Nova’s Ben Harvey shares surprising details about the day he proposed to girlfriend Sam Wallace

He’s best known for chatting up a storm with Liam Stapleton on Nova in Adelaide.

But Ben Harvey was lost for words when he proposed to his girlfriend of five and a half years, Sam Wallace, recently. 

The radio host popped the question while on holiday with Sam’s family in Port Douglas, Queensland, on December 29 – and he shared the news with Ben & Liam breakfast listeners on Monday. 

‘Went snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and that night I told her I organised a dinner. We went out the door and across the hall to her mum and dad’s room, and all the family was in there… I did it in front of her family,’ he explained.

‘It was pretty intimidating… The lights were all off, so when someone turned them on they were all there and she didn’t know what was going on and started freaking out.’

Ben then detailed getting down on one knee and not knowing what to say.

‘I didn’t plan what I was going to say. Like, I might say a few words about spending the rest of my life with you… she was freaking out, like “what’s going on?”, “what are you doing?”,’ he said.

‘Before I even got the ring out she said ‘yes’ and I got it out and shoved it on her finger.’ 

The funnyman added he hired a private chef to make the couple Japanese food in the hotel room after because ‘that’s her favourite’.

‘We’ve been dating for five and a half years, so it was about time,’ he said.

‘She wanted to be proposed to in Japan but because of COVID that wasn’t going to happen.

‘I also got her sunflowers, because that’s her favourite flower and I was playing Jack Johnson’s Better Together.’

Ben has since announced the news on his Instagram page by uploading a picture of the pair flaunting the flowers and the ring while celebrating their special day.
