Nathan Lyon, Emma McCarthy engagement: WAGs rally around Mel Waring

Kyly Clarke is the latest cricket WAG to throw her support behind Nathan Lyon’s ex-partner Mel Waring amid rumours the batsman is engaged to glamorous real estate agent Emma McCarthy.

Emma, 29, was pictured on Saturday wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring as she watched Nathan, 33, play his 100th test match at the Gabba.

While the couple haven’t confirmed they intend to marry, it seems several WAGs are still sympathetic to Mel, whom Nathan left in late 2017 so he could date Emma. 

On Monday, Kyly supported Mel by commenting on a photo she posted to Instagram of herself with her daughter Harper, six.

‘Cuties’, Kyly wrote, before liking the post. 

Back in November, Kyly also celebrated Harper’s birthday by commenting on Mel’s Instagram page: ‘Happy bday girl [praise emojis, rainbow emoji].’  

Kyly has plenty of common with Mel, as she too lost her WAG title last year after going public with her split from retired cricketer Michael Clarke.  

Unfortunately, Mel’s relationship ended in far more acrimonious circumstances.

The former couple split after Nathan was caught kissing Emma in late 2017 while he was still with his ex-partner.

David Warner’s wife, Candice, has also barracked for Mel in recent months by liking several of her Instagram posts.

As rumours of Nathan and Emma’s engagement swirled on Saturday, Candice visited Mel’s Instagram page to like her latest photo, which showed her hiking with friends.  

In December, Candice also liked a photo of Mel at the beach with her two daughters.

The same post was commented on by fellow WAG Roz Kelly, who is the wife of South African cricket player Morné Morkel. 

‘Gorgeous girls’, Roz wrote, highlighting her support for the single mother of two. 

Elsewhere, WAGs Lee Watson and Rebecca Marsh rallied around Mel by commenting on her recent Instagram post announcing she’d purchased a new home in Canberra.

In the photo, Mel and her daughters proudly posing in front of a ‘sold’ sign.

‘Congrats girls!’ wrote Lee, who is married to cricketer Shane Watson. 

Rebecca, whose husband is Shaun Marsh, added: ‘Awesome news. Can’t wait to visit. Miss you guys so much.’

Mel has also received consistent support from Dani Willis in the years since her relationship with Nathan fell apart.

Dani, who is married to former Australian cricket captain Steve Smith, has made no secret of her alliance to Mel by liking and commenting on her Instagram posts.  

In 2019, Woman’s Day reported that the WAG community was being torn apart due to animosity between Dani and Nathan’s new partner, Emma.

According to the publication, Dani remained ‘very loyal’ to Mel and refused to accept his new relationship.

‘Dani is a very loyal friend and it’s no secret she’s been very icy with Emma,’ a source told the magazine.

‘Dani knows how bitter the split is and how devastated Mel was when she found out about [Nathan’s] affair, so she doesn’t have any time for Emma,’ the insider added.

‘It’s caused a real division among the girls. I can’t see Dani ever becoming friends with Emma.’ 

Emma made headlines on Saturday when she was spotted flashing what appeared to be a large diamond engagement ring.

She and Nathan have not commented on rumours they are engaged.
