Cricket WAGs are ‘feuding’ over an article ‘power-ranking’ the wives of famous athletes

How a harmless newspaper article about Australia’s most powerful WAGs ‘sparked a feud’ among the wives and girlfriends of the national cricket team

Tensions are reportedly simmering among the Australian cricket WAG community.

According to New Idea, the wives and girlfriends of the country’s top cricketers are ‘feuding’ over a newspaper article ranking the 100 most powerful WAGs.

One sporting spouse is said to be disappointed by her ranking and was ‘shocked when she realised she was beaten by so many others’.

An insider claimed another WAG is now ‘determined to become number one’ in next year’s list and is ‘planning to rebuild herself and get back on top’.

The article in question was published by the Herald Sun on January 10, and ranked Australia’s 100 most powerful WAGs.

The list was decided by ‘Instagram followers, business ventures and career success’.

Sarah Kohan, the Australian wife of LA Galaxy soccer player Javier Hernández, was in first place, followed by Vanessa Sierra, the girlfriend tennis bad boy Bernard Tomic.

Candice Warner, the former Ironwoman and wife of batsman David Warner, placed eighth, while law graduate Dani Willis, who is married to Steve Smith, placed 21st.

Ben Cutting’s fiancée, Erin Holland, also made the list, landing in ninth place.

It comes after Australian cricket star Shane Lee said he feared for the mental health of Test captain Steve Smith over the stress of yet another ‘cheating’ scandal.

Footage emerged of Smith at the batting crease scuffing the pitch on the final day of the third Test in Sydney earlier this month – almost two years after he was suspended over the infamous 2018 ball-tampering incident in South Africa.

Smith said he was ‘shocked and disappointed by the reaction’ of commentators and fans, and insisted he was not intending to cheat.

Shane Lee, 47, told the Afternoon Sport Podcast the world’s best batsman didn’t seem to be in a good place.

‘Steve scored a fantastic hundred in Sydney and the way he reacted afterwards, I thought, there’s a real anger there. It’s disturbing,’ he said.

‘You wind forward to this Test: I’m seeing the same signs [as before sandpaper-gate]. I’m seeing someone like Smith who is getting really, really angry,’ he said.
