Dancing On Ice star Joe-Warren Plant has weighed in on claims he has a romantic connection with his pro partner Vanessa Bauer, admitting they do have ‘chemistry.’

The Emmerdale actor, 18, split from his girlfriend Nicole Hadlow in December following reports his closeness with Vanessa had come between the young couple.

In a new interview, Joe told MailOnline him and Vanessa, 24, ‘get on so well’ and he’s keen to impress the competitive dancer by reaching the Dancing On Ice final.

‘Everybody has seen we’re getting on’: Dancing On Ice star Joe-Warren Plant has weighed in on claims he has a romantic connection with Vanessa Bauer, admitting they do have ‘chemistry’

He said: ‘With Dancing On Ice, it is about telling a story, to be engaged with the audience and the judges. So, you have to have a certain level of chemistry between you and your partner.

‘Everybody has seen that we’re getting on so well and automatically assumed that something is going on but there isn’t and we’re just dedicated to the show and trying to do as best as we possibly can.

‘Vanessa has always been in the finals and she’s very driven and competitive so we work well on that together, I’m competitive as well, we’re just going to do our absolute best.’

It was claimed that Nicole dumped Joe after they rowed over the amount of hours he dedicated to rehearsals of the ITV show with Vanessa.

Joe admitted he’s still not over his breakup, though being part of the series has given him the chance to focus his mind on the competition, instead of his love life.

He explained: ‘Dancing On Ice has come at a good time for me both physically and mentally but relationships are hard to deal with it and it has helped take my mind off it slightly, having to focus and train all day, every day.

‘Even when you’re not training and you’re at home you have to take the recovery aspect into terms, so it has helped take my mind off it but things are still tough to be fair.’

Since joining the show in 2017, Vanessa has been linked to three of her four dance partners, including Jake Quickenden, 32, and Love Island’s Wes Nelson, 22, who she also reached the final of the competition with.

Given her success on the show so far, Joe feels under pressure to produce routines of a high standard and admits the prospect of winning has been all-consuming.

He said: ‘That’s something I have driven myself crazy thinking about to be honest.

‘Like I said, I am a competitive guy and I am a perfectionist – if there’s anything I’ve done which isn’t to the best of my ability then I’ll be wound up about it and I won’t be satisfied.

‘I would love to get to the final but we have such an amazing cast this year who are enjoying the show and that is the main thing – you work harder at it because you don’t see it as a job.’

  • Dancing On Ice, starts on Sunday 17th January at 6pm on ITV
