The Bachelorette’s Elly Miles urges people to take care on the roads

The Bachelorette’s Elly Miles urges people to take care on the roads after coming across a horrific car accident while driving to Newcastle

She’s best known for her stint as The Bachelorette on last year’s season of the reality dating show.

But long before she started handing out roses to potential suitors on national television, Elly Miles worked as a nurse on the frontline in a trauma ward.

In a series of emotional posts on Instagram Stories on Wednesday, the 26-year-old urged fans to take care when driving.

‘Something pretty hectic happened on my drive home yesterday,’ a shaken up Elly said into the camera.

‘I ummed and aahed about whether I should share it with you, but I feel like an important message could come out of it.

‘We came across an accident on our way back to Newy [Newcastle], emergency services were not yet on the scene.’

Speaking out: ‘Something pretty hectic happened on my drive home yesterday,’ a shaken up Elly said into the camera

The former Channel 10 star looked downcast as she continued to tell her emotional tale.

‘I wasn’t the first one on the scene, I was one of the first few there. Obviously, me -being a nurse – I thought I could be of some help,’ she explained.

‘And it just sort of took me back to a time when I was working on a trauma ward, and having cared for people who’d suffered similar injuries.

‘And I’ve just got to say, it takes a split second for your life to be turned upside down  or for you to potentially lose your life in a car accident.’

At this point, Elly’s voice appeared to break, before she continued: ‘We really need to treat our presence on our roads as a privilege, and just be responsible drivers and be aware of how other people drive around us.

‘On my way back to Parkes the other day, Mum and I were on the freeway and someone was [driving] erratically,’ she recounted.

‘You don’t think something like that can happen to you, but I don’t think the people that were involved in the accident woke up and thought, “I’m going to A, take my life, or B, seriously injure me.”

‘So, I guess I just want to say be careful, it’s something we really take for granted. It’s a very levelling experience having cared for patients who have been through that, and also being first on the scene yesterday.’

Elly’s warning post came after the single stunner announced her split from Bachelorette winner Frazer Neate in an emotional Instagram video last month.
