Wayne Lineker jokes it’s time to ‘slow down’ after having surgery on his shoulder

Wayne Lineker has revealed he’s been hospitalised after undergoing surgery on his shoulder following a drunken injury.

The entrepreneur, 58, took to Instagram from his hospital bed as he began his lengthy recovery back in London, after leaving doctors baffled with the extent of the ‘traumatic’ injury to his shoulder following a night out in Ibiza.

Wayne joked that it may be time to ‘slow down’ as he struggled to remember how he sustained the injury but vowed to be back to his feet in no time after six weeks of rehabilitation. 

Wayne shared a snap of his bandaged shoulder from his hospital bed after the major surgery, alongside the X-Ray of his shoulder.

The Celebs Go Dating star said he’d be spending at least six weeks recovering, meaning it would be a while before he could get back in the gym. 

He wrote: ‘So I had an operation today ffs lol I have had a full shoulder replacement… Thanks to one of the leading shoulder specialists in the UK, Dr Wallace, I will be up and running in no time. 

‘This is the 2nd operation I have had, the first was to replace my bicep sockets that came away and attempt to stitch up the long tear in my rotator cuff. 6 weeks rehab now before I can hit the gym again… 

Revealing he’d been suffering with the effects of his injury for the past 18 months before finally having surgery, Wayne added: ‘After my original first consultation Dr Wallace asked me how on earth did I do this huge trauma to my shoulder.  

‘I said, ‘I have no idea. I woke up hungover in Ibiza one day after a big day and night at Ocean and Hi for glitterbox �� (August 2019) and couldn’t lift my arm up” 

‘He went on ”but Wayne I’m sorry, but surely you remember what happened? Did you have a car accident or fall off a cliff or get run over by bus?” I said ”Sorry I just don’t recall I have absolutely no idea.” 

‘His reply was just one word ‘REMARKABLE.” Note to self, maybe it’s time to slow down a little now, more importantly lesson to self. Stop being a f*****g idiot!! slide to see what my shoulder now looks like #onlyme #sillyboy #remarkable.’

Luckily Wayne didn’t seem to have much time left in his hospital bed, as he shared a snap of himself on Stories with the caption: ‘Pick me up from the hospital on Thursday please.’

Wayne, who owns several bars in Ibiza, received a slew of comments from stars who were no stranger to his star-studded haunts.

They included his Celebs Go Dating co-star Curtis Pritchard, who wrote: ‘@waynelineker @tomzanettitz double stroked up with a new shoulder now. All I can say is your a legend !!! Hope your feeling alright sending all my love.’

Love Island’s Marcel Somerville added: ‘Speedy recovery bro.’

Katie Salmon added: ‘Get better soon my lovely sending you healing and love.’

Wayne is set to star on the upcoming series of Celebs Go Dating, alongside Geordie Shore’s Chloe Ferry, Strictly Come Dancing runner up Karim Zeroual, and former Coronation Street star Kimberly Hart-Simpson. 

Father-of-four Wayne has been married once and has had several girlfriends, but is thought to have been single since his split from ex-fiancée Danielle Sandhu, 28. 

The business mogul has three sons, Duane, Sean, Freddie, and a daughter named Tia from his first marriage. 

In 2016, he announced that he became a grandfather for the first time to his son’s daughter, Myla, four.

In September Wayne also sparked attention from his baffled fans when he revealed his oddly specific requirements for a girlfriend, including which included, giving up her career, being able to cook and loving R&B music.
