Taylor Swift had quite the year in 2020, as she graced her fans with two albums.

And the 10-time Grammy winner is kicking off the new year at the top of her game with an impressive achievement.

She broke another record recently, as her album Folklore became her fifth top-selling album of the year in the United States, making her the first artist to reach such an accomplishment.

The 31-year-old’s eighth studio album sold 1.276million from its release in late July, through the end of the year, also making it the only album to sell at least a million copies, according to MRC Data.

She previously had the top-selling albums of the year with Lover (2019), Reputation (2017), 1989 (2014) and Fearless (2009).

Swift beat out Adele with the achievement, who’s had the top-selling album of the year four times with her albums 25 (2016 and 2015) and 21 (2012 and 2011).

Folklore debuted atop the Billboard 200, and it spent eight weeks at No. 1, bringing her career total to 47 weeks, which topped Whitney Houston’s 1987 record as most weeks at No. 1 by a woman.

Swift followed up Folklore’s surprise July release with the another surprise album Evermore, which she dropped last month.

Evermore also made the cut, coming in as the 10th top-selling album of the year, with 283K copies sold in the less than three weeks since it was released.

She dropped a deluxe version of the album this week, featuring two bonus tracks, Right Where You Left Me and It’s Time to Go.

The Cats actress wrote on Instagram: ‘The first is a song about a girl who stayed forever in the exact spot where her heart was broken, completely frozen in time. “it’s time to go” is about listening to your gut when it tells you to leave. How you always know before you know, you know?’

Swifties speculated that the latter was about pal Karlie Kloss, dissecting the lyric: ‘When the words of a sister come back in whispers / That prove she was not in fact who she seemed / Not a twin from your dreams / She’s a crook who was caught.’

They also questioned whether a Right Where You Left Me lyric is about the model: ‘Friends break up, friends get married.’

Although Kloss, 28, told Andy Cohen in March of 2019 that she’s ‘really lucky’ to be friends with Swift, the Willow artist noticeably wasn’t at her intimate 2018 wedding to Joshua Kushner, 35, or the larger 2019 celebration.
