The Duchess of Cambridge celebrated her 39th birthday yesterday – with a cup of tea.

While she normally marks the occasion by organising a weekend shooting party for friends at her country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, sources said Kate instead spent a ‘quiet birthday’ with a tea party organised by Prince William and children George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two.

The Queen, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall all sent birthday wishes on their social media channels.

The official Royal Family account posted two images of Kate, adding: ‘Wishing the Duchess of Cambridge a very happy birthday today!’ – followed by the hashtag #HappyBirthdayHRH.

In one, Kate is showing the Queen the garden she helped design at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2019.

The other features the Duchess in a Scouts woggle to meet Cub and Beaver Scouts in Northolt, West London, last autumn.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall also shared a snap of the mother of three and wrote: ‘Happy Birthday to the Duchess of Cambridge!’ alongside a confetti ball emoji.

In their photo, a smiling Kate looks relaxed in a pair of pink £29.50 Marks & Spencer trousers which she wore to meet parents being helped by peer support networks in the pandemic last year.

On Kate’s own official social media channels, Kensington Palace posted a picture of her wearing a mask, from last month’s Royal Train tour, along with a message of support for the NHS.

It said: ‘Birthdays have been very different in recent months, and our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time.’

Kate’s focus over the next couple of months will be home-schooling George and Charlotte and expanding her Early Years initiative, to help the next generation, which she launched last autumn.
