Da Brat says she was so ‘scared’ of girlfriend Jesseca Dupart seeing her ‘imperfections’ she used to ‘hide behind furniture’

Da Brat and girlfriend Jesseca Dupart made their relationship public in March when the celebrated rapper came out as a lesbian in her mid-40s.

And while the Funkdafied artist, 46, and CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair’s connection is clear, Da Brat admitted she used to be terrified of Dupart seeing her ‘imperfections’ at the start of the relationship.

‘I was just real nervous and scared,’ Da Brat – birth name Shawntae Harris – explained in a clip from the season premiere of Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta, shared on TooFab on Thursday.

Everyone has insecurities: Da Brat admitted she used to be terrified of girlfriend Jesseca Dupart seeing her ‘imperfections’ at the start of their relationship

Her insecurity even drove her to do ridiculous things.

‘At first I would hide behind furniture when she would talk to me,’ the Chicago native said. ‘I would cover up my face when I laughed.’

And though Da Brat was shy, Jesseca found her quirks utterly charming.

‘It was the cutest thing ever,’ she gigged in the couple’s confessional.

Reflecting on her shyness, the famously bold rapper – who made history as the first female rapper to go platinum in 1994 – admitted ‘Like nobody probably would ever expect me to act like that.’

Though known for her attitude and bold style after making her mark on the hip hop scene in the mid-90s, the star still kept her sexuality private for over 25-year.

Opening up about her decision to finally come out during a March 2020 interview with Variety, saying: ‘I’ve always felt like being private is the better way to go, because then you don’t have so many people in your business.’

But her relationship with Jesseca pushed her to be more open.

‘I was fine staying quiet, but my partner is a social media mogul — that’s how she became who she is,’ she explained.

‘And when you get with somebody, you have to meet in the middle. So to me, the middle was just letting everybody know: “Hey, she’s the one.”‘

Soon after meeting the pair were all in, prompting Jesseca to relocate from New Orleans to Atlanta to be with her love.

And the pandemic has only brought the couple closer, with Da Brat saying: ‘Quarantine can make you or break you and we are still here, baby. So we must be doing alright. And it feel good to be happy out loud.

Before coming out the Loverboy rapper dated basketball legend Allen Iverson.

Though she said their relationship ‘was good for a minute,’ ultimately infidelity got in the way.

‘It just didn’t work out. Too many b****,’ she told Real Housewives Of Atlanta’s Kandi Burruss on her YouTube show Speak On It last September.
